Latvijas Finieris provides summer work opportunities for the children of its employees for the 14th year

10.06.2026

For the fourteenth consecutive year, Latvijas Finieris is implementing a summer employment programme, offering children of employees from the age of 15 the opportunity to gain their first practical work experience in a professional environment. The programme allows young people to spend their summer break in a useful and meaningful way, while learning more about the company where their mother or father works.

This year, 50 applications were received, the highest number in recent years. During the summer months, from 1 June to 31 August, Latvijas Finieris will provide work opportunities for 34 young people – children of 25 employees, in specially created seasonal positions such as “warehouse manager assistant”, “greenkeeper”, “document arranger”, “laboratory assistant”, and another nine young people who have reached the age of majority – in production departments.

Gunita Meiere, Member of the Executive Board of AS Latvijas Finieris, stated:

“Our employees are the company’s greatest asset, so we look for different ways to support them and their families. The summer employment programme is an opportunity for young people to get their first work experience, develop a sense of responsibility, and understand the basics of working life.”

Inga Doveika, Head of the Sustainability and Environmental Management Department:

“As a parent, I am grateful to Latvijas Finieris for the summer work opportunities for my children, for the chance to take responsibility for their own duties, to learn something new and, of course, to earn their own money.”

This summer, the children of the employees will work in various departments and facilities of Latvijas Finieris – the company-managed camping site in Abragciems, the Zābaki farm, the “Furniers”, “Lignums” and “Iekārtu rūpnīca” mills, the Forest Sector, as well as the Hapaks mill.

Emīls Doveika, who has participated in the employment programme for several years, says:

“I have had the opportunity to work for two summers in different departments and positions at Latvijas Finieris. My last experience was at the camping site. This job gave me the opportunity to try out different roles I hadn’t done before, which allowed me to learn new skills and to see what I liked and was good at, and what I definitely wouldn’t want to do. I’m also happy to be able to earn my own money. These jobs have also helped me to learn how to communicate with different people. I really appreciate being treated as an equal employee.”

Kate Ķepīte, participant of the 2025 employment programme:

“In the summer employment programme at Latvijas Finieris, I worked as an assistant to the internal communications specialist. My job duties included various computer tasks such as creating presentations, working with text, analysing questionnaire data, etc. In the work process, I learnt a lot about the company, its products, partners, current projects and history, which really interested me. I gained valuable work experience, as well as applied and developed my computer and communication skills. It was very cool to work with supportive colleagues. The day I remember best is definitely when I danced the “Pigs in a Buckwheat Field” wearing a birch-tree costume to create a themed Song Festival video greeting on the Mežaparks Great Bandstand!”

The summer employment programme is one of the long-term initiatives of Latvijas Finieris to promote the well-being of employees and their families. Over the past fourteen years, several hundred children of employees have participated in the programme, some of whom have gone on to pursue a career in forestry and wood processing.
