Cooperation with educational institutions

Quality education and knowledge transfer play an important role in the development of Latvijas Finieris and society as a whole. To foster this, we have established close cooperation with educational institutions at different levels in curriculum development, research projects and theses, as well as in the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience.

Riga Technical University

Our common goal is to strengthen the preparedness of society and economy for global change, which is why collaborative science projects focus on developing new methods for the responsible use of traditional materials and resources of all kinds in the circular economy. Recruiting students for internships, organising company excursions and participating in thesis projects are also among the current activities. The main areas of cooperation are described in more detail in the cooperation agreement signed in September 2023.

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies

Together, we develop knowledge to improve forestry practices – from seed to log stacking at the forest road. We work together closely to develop competencies relating to wood and its properties. We contribute to the development of study programmes, research projects and theses. Leading specialists from Latvijas Finieris regularly give guest lectures, and we host student and lecturer excursions, as well as provide internships at our factories.

University of Latvia

We promote the development of material sciences and explore the potential of chemical processing of wood, for example, in the use of birch wood extractives. We also have joint projects in humanities, especially in psychology and social anthropology.

Riga Stradiņš University

We have started to develop a common understanding of how to work together in Latvian public health research.

Vocational education institutions

Cooperation with vocational and 1st level higher education institutions is mainly based on the production of our main product – birch plywood – in the essential specialities: woodworking, mechanics, energy, electronics and chemistry. Our closest partners are Riga State Technical School, Riga Technical College, Ogre Technical College, Riga Vocational school No. 3 and Olaine College of Technology. We regularly provide traineeships for students from these vocational training institutions.

General education schools

We organise an educational event for schoolchildren, Latvijas Finieris Green Class. We also work with general education schools through various forest partner activities and projects. Cooperation with the association Latvijas Koks and the association Zaļās mājas is important, including support for the exhibition “Get to know – tree!”. We take part in a campaign by the Association of the Latvian Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry (LAĶIFA) to motivate students to study chemistry. We are also actively involved in a number of youth education events organised by AS Latvijas valsts meži, such as “Latvian Forest Days”, “LVM Bioeconomy School” and “Forest Expedition”.

Internship opportunities

Latvijas Finieris values young professionals who want to strengthen their theoretical knowledge in practice. This is why we offer paid internships for future professionals studying at vocational secondary schools or universities.
