18.07.2024

As of February 2024, Gints Tilks has assumed the role of President at Riga Wood North America, succeeding Edgars Kerijs who held this position for 5 years. With a rich professional background, including serving as a sales manager at Riga Wood North America for almost 5 years, Gints brings extensive experience to his new position.

Raised in Riga, he embarked on his educational journey at Riga State Technical School, specialising in wood processing technology. He furthered his studies at Latvia University of Agriculture (LLU) in Jelgava, earning the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Wood processing. Gints’ journey with Latvijas Finieris started in 1998, when he began working at Hapaks mill as a production manager, a position that he continued to hold until he ventured to the United States in 2000 through the Young Farmers Association exchange programme. There, he immersed himself in the construction industry, honing his skills in construction and house remodelling, and even establishing his own company, Tilks Home Renovation.

In 2019, Gints crossed paths with Edgars Kerijs within the Latvian community, leading to his appointment as a sales manager at Riga Wood North America.

As President, Gints has set strategic goals with a keen focus on the expansive American market.

“To continue a stable performance, it is important to prioritise relationships with end-users and aim to offer value-added products. This includes active participation in trade shows and exhibitions to showcase Riga Wood’s plywood and highlight its unique selling points,”

comments Gints.

Furthermore, Gints underscores the importance of maintaining stability amidst market fluctuations and potential challenges posed by cheaper imports.

Identifying potential growth areas in transportation and concrete formwork industries, Gints acknowledges the competitive landscape, particularly with Chinese and Russian plywood. He emphasises the value proposition of Riga Wood’s processed birch plywood, which offers superior quality and mitigates risks associated with cheaper alternatives.

Outside of work, Gints finds joy in family life, spending time with his wife and three children. His hobbies include carpentry, cooking, fishing, and hiking.
