The support of Latvijas Finieris to Ukraine has reached EUR 5.7 million

24.01.2024

February will mark two years since Ukrainians have been fighting with guns for their people’s desire to be free and live in a democracy. Since the first day of the war, Latvijas Finieris, together with partners in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland, has provided continuous support to the people of Ukraine in various forms, with the value of donations reaching EUR 5.7 million by the end of 2023. The amount of the support of the company is related to the volume of veneer logs processed in Latvijas Finieris mills – EUR 5 per cubic metre.

Support to Ukraine

Every country in the European Union is founded on people’s belief in a free and secure life. Belief in the opportunity to study, to raise families, to work, to relax – to enjoy life and dream of the future. We take these values for granted. The countries of the European Union have agreed to welcome Ukraine into their family when the war ends. This means that every citizen of the European Union knows that the Ukrainian border is a European border and that the Ukrainian front is our front, where we are now fighting together. Thank God, we do not have to take up arms, we do not pay with our lives. It is in our hands to support the Ukrainian freedom fighters by donating our capital. This is the duty and responsibility of the whole of Europe in this common fight against Russian imperialism.

“I have been to Ukraine and I know what it is like to go to bed with the possibility of a building being destroyed by a missile strike in the night,” says Uldis Biķis, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Latvijas Finieris. “I have seen in the eyes of the Ukrainian people what it means to not know about tomorrow, to fear for the lives of their loved ones not only on the frontline, but also in school or in the supermarket. Despair, anger and the unbearable pain of loss. And the sheer determination to fight, no matter what. For their country and their children’s future. At Latvijas Finieris, our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people and we will continue to support them until the war is won.”

TOGETHER WE WILL WIN!
