Generations of Dedication: The Belovs Family

Three decades of expertise at Latvijas Finieris
Dmitrijs, the head of the Belovs family, commenced his tenure with Latvijas Finieris in 1994, initially joining the Chemical and Heat Equipment division in Lignums mill in Riga. Throughout the years, he has progressed from his initial role as a Heat Equipment Repair Locksmith to his current position as a Chemical and Heat Equipment Mechanic. His primary duties entail organizing, executing, and supervising maintenance and repair tasks of chemical and energy equipment and systems, as well as participating in equipment installation and commissioning processes, among other daily responsibilities. Prior to working at Lignums, Dmitrijs was employed at another wood processing company, but he switched to Latvijas Finieris because the job was much more desirable and prestigious. When asked how come that he has spent at the same company thirty years, Dmitrijs admits: “Because the longer I am part of the Lignums team, the harder it becomes to envision myself elsewhere. I find satisfaction in both my duties and compensation, as well as the benefits provided to employees”.
In father’s footsteps
Following in his father’s footsteps, Aleksandrs joined Latvijas Finieris eight years ago. Starting as a repair locksmith, he swiftly climbed the ranks to become a Thermal Oil Boiler Operator. Aleksandrs’ commitment and passion for his work mirror those instilled by his father. “At Lignums, we are referred to as the heart of the mill, meaning we ensure heat supply to the Chemical production and entire Lignums, which is one of the largest birch plywood sites in the world,” shares Alexander. His team ensures continuous monitoring of boilers and ensures heat supply, conducts visual inspections of many different hazardous facilities equipment and systems, carries out repair and adjustment work independently or in collaboration with other technical service teams, and more. The team also actively introduces new equipment and, consequently – new technologies, in line with the latest energy efficiency requirements and environmental and sustainability goals.
With attentiveness to every task
Viktorija works as a Finishing Dryer Equipment Operator, she says: “Joining the team was encouraged by a friend of mine, who worked at Lignums. He described Latvijas Finieris as a stable and trustable employer. That played a decisive role for me.”
With nearly two decades of experience at Latvijas Finieris, Viktorija started as a veneer sheet sorter, showcasing her dedication and expertise in her role for nine years in row and then, after a 2-year break she returned to Latvijas Finieris and continued in her current position. Her duties include feeding veneer into the drying equipment, monitoring the operations of the equipment, and also controlling the quality of the finished materials and sorting them.
For employees, internal training is available throughout their period of employment, allowing them to improve their qualifications while also increasing their personal income.
Hobbies and Beyond
Although working at the same mill, the members of the Belovs family seldom overlap in their roles due to varying schedules and duties. They enjoy shared activities such as watching movies, cycling, and occasional trips. Dmitrijs specializes in reviewing the latest foreign films, offering personal insights and critiques on the content as freelancer at local news portal. In 2008 Dmitrijs has published his own book “Twenty-Eight”. Traveling together with the family is another moment of joy.
Meanwhile, Aleksandrs focuses on physical activities like running and cycling. Viktorija showcases her culinary creativity beyond the mill by experimenting with global cuisines. Also traveling is close to her heart.
