Construction of Latvijas Finieris’ New Resin Mill in Riga Continues

06.08.2025

Construction of the new resin mill of AS Latvijas Finieris continues in the Bolderāja neighbourhood in Riga. The project is technologically complex, as the building’s structural frame is being constructed simultaneously alongside the large-scale installation of process equipment.

By early August, construction of the ground floor – designated to accommodate both production and workspace areas – was nearly complete. Meanwhile, the installation of equipment and large-scale tanks on the second floor has commenced. Once this phase is complete, construction will proceed with the slab between the second and third floors, along with finishing works on the upper section of the building. In parallel, construction of the fire-fighting system and engineering networks is underway, while the procurement of additional production equipment continues.

It has already been reported that in order to develop the production of new synthetic type resins, where fossil raw materials are partially replaced by natural origin wood component lignin, thus reducing the share of fossil raw materials in the production of phenolic formaldehyde resins, which are currently used in the production of board materials, thermal insulation, sandpaper, and many other everyday products, Latvijas Finieris started the construction of a new mill in Riga, Bolderāja, at the end of 2024.

It is being developed on the territory of AS Latvijas Finieris at Finiera iela 6, Riga. The mill will have an annual production capacity of 45 000 tonnes. The mill will feature world-unique technologies designed to significantly reduce the use of fossil-based phenol and formaldehyde in adhesive production by substituting them with lignin. This is part of the HORIZON 2020 co-funded VIOBOND project.
