Celebrating Japan – Latvia 100th Anniversary of Friendship

06.12.2021

This year, Japan and Latvia celebrate their 100th anniversary of friendship. Japan was among the countries to recognise Latvia’s “de jure” independence in 1921. Since then, both countries have established strong mutual relations.

From 7-19 December, a special event “Expanding Lights”, organised by the Embassy of Latvia in Japan and Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) will be held at Roppingi Hills, one of the most prestigious life-style centres in Tokyo. The event will demonstrate the close ties between both countries in various fields, from culture to business partnerships.

Latvijas Finieris and Riga Wood Japan are also supporting the event and will be there to introduce Riga Wood birch plywood products and services to the audience. A special interior construction using Riga Wood birch plywood was created for the event, emphasising nature and our treasure – wood.

Japan is a stable market with many opportunities for Riga Wood birch plywood.

“At present, our birch plywood products in Japan are used in interior, furniture and high-quality flooring solutions, as well as for manufacture of building elements and packaging, and in the floor constructions of refrigerated vessels. The biggest challenge for Latvijas Finieris right now is to qualify as a component solution provider in the construction of high-speed passenger trains”

Mārtiņš Lācis, Head of Marketing, Sales, Purchasing and Logistics.

Besides a stable market for birch plywood, Japan is a place where one can gain new industrial experience that can be applied in processes within Latvijas Finieris Group.

This is just one of the many events organised to celebrate the anniversary of the Japan–Latvia friendship.
