Dainis has been working at Iekārtu rūpnīca for more than thirteen years. His journey to Latvijas Finieris began in a completely different company, where his work first brought him into contact with Latvijas Finieris products.

“At that time, our company was commissioned to make one structure for Latvijas Finieris. I was pleasantly surprised by the culture and the quality of the work I experienced there. After a while, I was offered the chance to join the Iekārtu rūpnīca team. I accepted it without hesitation and have not regretted it.”

Dainis has a technical background in metalworking. He trained as a fitter and turner. This education, coupled with his interest in mechanics, laid the foundation for his career.

“I began on the machine shop floor, overseeing processes and supporting colleagues. I gradually became a foreman and then a senior fitter. It doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a journey of taking responsibility and learning to lead people.”

Every day at the Mill – Responsibility and Precision

A senior fitter’s day is dynamic – each day brings fresh tasks. He oversees nine teams in the metalworking shop and coordinates the work of several foremen on a daily basis.

“For us, everything begins with the project – we receive the drawings, prepare the components, and allocate the work to the teams. From start to finish, we oversee the entire process to ensure every part is cut, machined, welded, and assembled with precision. It’s a collective effort – every individual plays a part, and this is the only way to achieve a quality result.”

Dainis has no doubts about what he values most at Latvijas Finieris:

“When I first joined, the team was still taking shape, but today we have a truly close-knit group. People support one another, and newcomers receive everything they need – both the knowledge and the tools. You are never made to feel like a stranger.”

He acknowledges that team spirit and mutual trust are what make it possible to handle the intensity of the work.

“There are moments when the pace is demanding, but when you know you can rely on your colleagues, everything falls into place. We know, trust and support each other.”

Many potential employees tend to worry about the location of their workplace in Bolderāja, but Dainis rejects this notion.

“I come from Imanta myself, and it’s very easy. Buses run every few minutes, one after another. There’s no need to hurry or worry. Getting to work is not a problem – if you want to, you will.”

As for the younger generation, Dainis is convinced that this is a great place to start out and grow.

“Don’t be afraid. No one starts out with experience. If a young person is keen to learn, we’ll teach them – step by step. Attitude is what matters. Some young people arrive with no prior knowledge, yet they’re working independently within a year.”

He adds that work in the mill is often stereotyped:

“Others assume the work is difficult or monotonous, but in reality it is highly modern – both in terms of technology and the safety standards and working conditions. Latvijas Finieris offers a stable environment and the opportunity to do a job you can be proud of.”
