New large-format CNC machine installed at Iekārtu rūpnīca

10.03.2026

A new OKUMA MCR-A5CII large-format CNC machining centre has been installed at Iekārtu rūpnīca of Latvijas Finieris, significantly expanding the company’s capabilities in the high-precision machining of bulky metal parts. This investment is another step in the targeted development of Iekārtu rūpnīca and confirms the Group’s long-term investment in strengthening its competence in mechanical engineering and metalworking.

Iekārtu rūpnīca is one of the production units of Latvijas Finieris operating in the field of mechanical engineering and metalworking, providing both technical support for the Group’s production equipment and the development and production of non-standard metal products. The operating model of Iekārtu rūpnīca is based on a complete cycle – from design and engineering to production, assembly and service. This enables high quality, flexibility, and the ability to develop tailor-made technical solutions for both the Group and external customers.

Targeted investment in engineering development

In recent years, Iekārtu rūpnīca has made a number of major investments to strengthen its metalworking capacity and modernise its production infrastructure. In 2024, a new, state-of-the-art metalworking shop was opened on the site, covering an area of around 1 300 m². It provides the storage and pre-processing of metal raw materials: cutting, sawing and bending, as well as a shot blast chamber for steel surface treatment.
The installation of the new CNC machine continues this development and investment programme, expanding the technological potential of Iekārtu rūpnīca and allowing complex metalworking projects to be carried out even more efficiently. A modern machine tool fleet is essential to remain competitive in the engineering sector and to be able to offer high value-added solutions.

Increased precision and efficiency for machining complex parts

The new OKUMA MCR-A5CII is a large-format dual-column CNC machining centre designed for the milling, drilling and complex machining of large metal parts with high precision. The machine has a working area of 6 500 mm in the X-axis, 2 500 mm in the Y-axis, and 1 850 mm in the Z-axis, which allows the handling of bulky assemblies and structural elements.
One of the most important advantages is the five-plane machining capability, which allows complex parts to be machined in a single fixture or with significantly fewer re-sets. This reduces processing time, increases accuracy, and reduces the risk of errors. The swivel head with 5° indexing increments provides flexibility for machining different geometries, while the automated tool and head change allows the machine to be adapted to different technological tasks.
The machine is equipped with an advanced CNC control system that provides real-time process monitoring, collision avoidance features and optimised cutting modes, thus increasing production safety and efficiency.

Māris Bumbieris, Director of Iekārtu rūpnīca:

“The new machine significantly expands our technological capabilities. It allows larger and more complex parts to be machined with high precision, while reducing the need for re-setting and increasing production efficiency. Such investments strengthen our competence in mechanical engineering and allow Iekārtu rūpnīca to develop as a modern, high value-added metalworking plant.”

The investment in the new machine was implemented with the support of the European Union and is part of the long-term approach of Latvijas Finieris to develop modern production technologies, strengthen engineering competencies, and promote the development of the Latvian mechanical engineering industry.
