Birch plywood for sea transport
Outstanding quality in extreme conditions
Birch plywood’s unique technical properties excel in sea transport, where it is used for insulating membranes in LNG tankers, cargo compartment flooring in ships and container floor coverings. Its exceptional strength, wear resistance and versatility also make it indispensable in yacht and boat structures and interior design.
- Long-term strength and dimensional stability in extremely low temperatures
- Wear-resistant, durable surfaces with anti-slip and moisture-resistant properties
- Surface withstands commonly used chemicals, UV rays, and impacts
- Certification in accordance with maritime transport regulations
Plywood applications
LNG tankers
Birch plywood is used in manufacturing insulating membranes for liquid natural gas (LNG) tankers and storage terminal tanks, where maintaining consistent technical performance and dimensional stability under extremely low-temperature conditions is of paramount importance.
Cargo ships
Birch plywood is utilised for cargo compartment flooring and wall lining. Tailored solutions, such as incorporated grooves, holes, specially coated surfaces with abrasive textures, ensure effective air circulation and ventilation, preventing cargo from sliding.
Containers
Birch plywood is extensively applied as a container floor covering and is known for its exceptional bending strength, wear resistance and excellent strength-to-weight ratio.
Yachts & boats
Birch plywood is widely used in the construction of water transport vehicles and in their interior solutions – for flooring, decorative wall finishes, and furniture. Composite materials made from birch plywood are used for sound insulation and vibration reduction.
Research and development
Product research laboratory
Birch plywood is Latvijas Finieris Group’s core business, where the company invests in the latest technologies, research, and innovations.
Chemical product plant
In the Chemical Product Development Laboratory, we focus on developing adhesive formulations for plywood and various types of plywood panel coatings.
VIOBOND
The international consortium project VIOBOND, led by Latvijas Finieris, brings together nine partners from five European Union member states with the aim of developing a formula and creating the world's first industrial production technology for "greener," environmentally and people-friendly phenol-formaldehyde resins.
Betulin Lab
The Betulin Lab, an experimental research and production laboratory of Latvijas Finieris, is technologically equipped as a second-level pharmaceutical raw material producer.
Forestry
Our top priority is to practice responsible and sustainable forest management that balances environmental preservation and economic viability.
