Generations of Commitment: The Špakovs Family's Legacy at Latvijas Finieris

19. december, 2023

At Latvijas Finieris, where traditions merge with innovations, many employees have started their professional careers, achieved notable accomplishments and, even more – have attracted their family members to join the Latvijas Finieris team. Vladimirs Špakovs, the leader of the Electronics Group, and Svetlana Špakova, the senior accountant in the Product Realisation Group at the Lignums mill are a part of one of our many families working at Latvijas Finieris.

Embracing technological advancements in the professional career
For the past 34 years, Vladimirs Špakovs has been a part of Latvijas Finieris, working at the Lignums mill within the Electronics Group. As the head of the Electronics Group in Lignums, Vladimirs oversees the seamless operation of automated control systems. His responsibilities include organising team activities, maintaining an inventory of essential components for planned and unplanned repairs, and fostering the qualification growth and skill development of his team. Furthermore, Vladimirs is an example for others. With his work and attitude, he enlightens his team to carry out the values of Latvijas Finieris Group – safety, leadership, respect and development – into everyday activities.

Even before becoming a part of Latvijas Finieris Group, Vladimirs witnessed the Lignums mill’s comprehensive modernisation, including cutting-edge woodworking equipment. In the 90s, he was inspired by the development and forward-thinking manifested by Latvijas Finieris in times when there were many challenges, economic- and production-wise.

Vladimirs’ spouse, Svetlana Špakova, the senior accountant in the Product Realisation Group, has contributed 33 years of service to Latvijas Finieris. Her journey began in the Veneer Peeling Unit, followed by a position as a dispatcher in Transport Clearance. Subsequently, she transitioned to the Finished Product Department, where she served as a controller and accountant for two decades before assuming her current role in 2021.

As the senior accountant in the Product Realisation Group, Svetlana plays a crucial role in preparing contracts and accompanying documents for the dispatch of goods worldwide. Adhering to international legal requirements for cargo transportation, she ensures the smooth flow of Latvijas Finieris’ products across the globe.

Family legacy and work-life harmony
Joining Latvijas Finieris as the fourth consecutive family member employed by the company, Vladimirs was preceded by both his parents and his older brother. The decision to work at Latvijas Finieris was influenced by family stories and early exposure to the company's work environment. Vladimirs shares that despite working in the same mill, daily routines seldom intersect with family members. However, commuting together with his wife is a cherished ritual.

Svetlana's decision to join Latvijas Finieris was influenced by family ties, as her husband was already a part of the Latvijas Finieris family. The stability and positive reputation of Latvijas Finieris as an employer further reinforced her choice. The attractive perks, helpful and friendly colleagues, and the overall welcoming atmosphere make her daily commute to Latvijas Finieris a source of joy.

Reflecting on Latvijas Finieris, Vladimirs emphasises the stability and supportive work culture that has withstood global crises. Latvijas Finieris’ commitment extends beyond legal obligations, providing additional benefits and opportunities for real growth, especially for the younger generation.

Hobbies and family adventures
In his earlier days, Vladimirs found joy in programming. Over time, this hobby seamlessly integrated into his daily work within the Electronics Group at Latvijas Finieris. Outside of work, the Špakovs family's passion lies in travel. Whether exploring Latvia or venturing abroad, their shared love for discovering new horizons is a testament to their close-knit family bonds.

Latvijas Finieris Group takes pride in attracting new employees who may also be family members of other employees. The company invests a lot of effort in taking care of employees' well-being and respecting family needs. For example, it is important to pay attention to and consider family habits and conveniences, such as carpooling to and from work, when planning workplace changes in structures or existing responsibilities related to the production process.
