New Europan Timber regulation

The application of the Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market starts from 3rd March 2013. The Regulation is legally binding on all 27 EU Member States.

Latvijas Finieris is well aware of the environmental, social and economic interests of all stakeholders, balancing them together creates a platform for company’s sustainable activities. Basic principles for environmental protection, timber purchasing and procession operations as described in company’s Policy of Sustainability, Timber Purchasing Policy and Environmental Policy meets the Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 requirements.

Latvijas Finieris for plywood production uses timber that is purchased only in European Economic zone.

Latvijas Finieris received its first Chain-of-Custody certificate in 2001. Now company’s chain of custody is certified according to PEFC ST2002:2010 (Chain of Custody of Forest Based Products- Requirements) standard and FSC-STD -40-004 V2-1 (FSC Standard for Chain of Custody Certification) and FSC –STD -40-005 V2-1 (FSC Standard for Company Evaluation of Controlled Wood). Latvijas Finieris has developed its wood legitimacy system that provides the traceability of wood according to standards mentioned above.

Competent authority in Latvia who will implement the timber regulation No 995/2010 is Ministry of Agriculture of Republic of Latvia - Forest Sector Strategy and Support Division of Forest Department.
